1. Why we verify you
Australian law requires us to know who our customers are before we provide virtual asset services, such as exchanging, holding or transferring digital assets. Verification also protects you, by making it much harder for someone to open an account in your name.
2. What we ask for
Personal details
- Full legal name, as shown on your ID
- Date of birth
- Residential address
- Email address and mobile number
- Country of residence and citizenship
Identity document
One current, government-issued photo ID:
- Australian or foreign passport
- Australian driver licence
- Australian proof-of-age or photo card
- National identity card (non-Australian residents)
Proof of address (Level 3 and above)
A document dated in the last 3 months showing your name and address:
- Utility bill (electricity, gas, water or internet)
- Bank or credit card statement
- Council rates notice
- Government correspondence (for example, ATO or Centrelink)
3. Verification levels
4. How verification works
- Upload: take photos of your ID in the app or on the website. All four corners must be visible and the text readable.
- Selfie check: a short liveness check confirms you are the person on the document.
- Automated checks: most verifications are completed within minutes, using electronic data sources and document checks.
- Manual review: if we can't verify you automatically, our team reviews your application, usually within 1–2 business days.
5. Politically exposed persons
If you, a family member or a close associate hold a prominent public position, you must tell us during verification. This triggers enhanced checks; it does not automatically stop you opening an account.
6. Keeping your details current
Tell us promptly if your name, address or other details change. We will also ask you to re-confirm your details from time to time.
7. Why an application may be declined
- Documents are blurry, expired, altered or don't match your details
- You live in a country we do not serve
- You appear on a sanctions or watch list
- You don't provide additional information we request
If your application is declined because of a fixable problem, you can resubmit.
8. Countries we don't serve
We do not provide services to residents of countries subject to comprehensive sanctions or on the FATF “call for action” list. The current list is available on request from kyc@southledger.com.
9. How we protect your documents
Identity documents are encrypted, stored with access limited to authorised compliance staff, and kept only as long as the law requires. See our Privacy Policy for details.
